PARTICIPANTS

Becky Slogeris is a Social Design Associate at the Center for Social Design at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) where she is responsible for program coordination, operations and communications for various initiatives engaging MICA students and faculty in social innovation projects in Baltimore, nationally and internationally. She is a graduate of MICA with a BFA in graphic design and an MA in Social Design, where her thesis work focused on designing curriculum and tools for teachers and empowering students to create change in their communities.

In addition to experience creating large scale promotional campaigns for local non profits, Johns Hopkins Center for Injury Research and Prevention, and Baltimore City’s Sexual Assault Response Team, her teaching experience includes work with the Children’s Defense Fund and Elev8 Baltimore as a Freedom Schools Servant Leader Intern and Out-of-School Time Coach at Collington Square Elementary, Social Design Instructor for Wide Angle Youth Media at Digital Harbor High School, Teaching Artist for the Center for Urban Pedagogy in New York, and Volunteer Workshop Coordinator at 826 DC. Recently, Becky worked with FEMA and Carrot New York to create project-based curricula for Middle and High School teachers to engage students in the creation of public service announcement (PSA) campaigns on disaster preparedness in their communities.

Becky was also recognized by Graphic Design USA as a 2012 Student to Watch, and received a Robert W. Deutsch Foundation Social Design Fellowship to continue her work in 2012-2013 on the BMore Fit Teacher Toolkit, an exercise tool for engaging students and improving their academic performance in the classroom, and the Baltimore CARES Service-Learning Curriculum, a guidebook for revitalizing vacant lots with high school students.
