Betsy Kalven is a media designer, maker, and writer living in Los Angeles. Through research, narrative, speculation, and physical intervention, her work orbits around the themes of eating design, public space, and the navigation of complex systems, with a particular focus on food. She is interested in looking at problem spaces as embedded in larger ecologies of issues and loves working in diverse spaces, using design as a tool to facilitate more nuanced engagements and conversations.

Betsy received her BA in Human Rights from the University of Michigan, pursued post graduate study in Architecture at Harvard’s GSD, and is graduate of the inaugural class of the Media Design Practices / Field program at Art Center. Her work has been supported by Intel Labs’ Interaction and Experience Research Group and UNICEF’s Tech Innovation Unit. She was recognized by the OTTOGONO magazine as one of the Future Talents 2013.
